MIND WALKS
(This poem is part of the Holmfirth Writers Group new book 'Reflections of Holme' in partnership with Andy Leader a local Photographer)
You woke to covered sky
cold and grey.
believing in better
you left
and smiled
remembering your father saying you always got a better weather forecast on the ITV
gaining your stride wasn’t easy
the troubles you had didn’t want to be left behind
rising from the lane you welcomed the rusty gate and pushed hard against it
once on the track the rivulets turned you into a dancer and with heel and hopscotch you showed off to yourself
you worked the mud underfoot hoping for a chance to rinse
once into rythm
your head raised
and faced the hills
you planned your manoeuvre
you didn’t notice the shifting light
you only felt an easing on your return.
